My use of both Gestalt Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) gives me a wide range of options to support my clients. Gestalt Therapy focuses on the ‘here and now,’ our body experiences and our childhood patterns, and helps us be present in our relationships with more energy and excitement. CBT has been rigorously tested in over 1000 studies, and is a therapy that supports depression, attention deficit disorder (ADD), panic and anxiety, phobias and stress. Where CBT works by examining and re-framing our irrational thoughts, Gestalt Therapy encourages the expression of emotion. The two theories support each other, engaging both the mind and the heart, the rational and the artful—our whole self.
